Hello and Welcome to the website of THE ARTS SOCIETY HIGH WEALD.  We are one of many such societies all over the UK and other parts of the world, all affiliated to one head office.  As you look through these pages you will see that we organise many activities.  Our Society is known for its friendliness and we keep in contact with our members via a regular Newsletter and a printed Programme Card with information about lectures and a myriad of other arts-related topics.

We meet once a month (except July and August) on the last Tuesday of each month except in December which is usually held earlier in the month, for illustrated lectures about an amazing variety of subjects, all to do with the arts, and that includes painting, architecture, sculpture, music, photography, jewellery, costume, posters……well, I could go on, but just look at the ‘Lectures’ page.  Before the lecture we meet in the small hall for a chat and a coffee, offered by some of our members.

We go on outings to London or visit great houses closer at hand, such as Firle Place and the Gardens of Leonardslee in Sussex.  In the past we have been on guided cultural tours - the last  was to Vienna in 2024.  Previously we have visited places from Dublin to as far away as The Silk Road.

Needless to say, all this requires a Committee and you will meet us at our Tuesday morning monthly lecture meetings. Rachel Hay copes with all aspects of membership; Sally Bishop is our capable Secretary and the hub of communications; Lucy O'Flaherty sorts out the lectures each month; and Jude Marks organises the visits.  Behind the scenes Sheenagh Nicholson arranges for donations to local schools, under the Young Arts banner, for them to enjoy different aspects of the arts, whilst our Treasurer Charlie Hume keeps the finances in order. Last but not least, Minnie Garnier is organising a Study Day for Spring 2027.

As part of our our charitable aims we support both the Romney Marsh Historic Churches Trust and Cranbrook Museum.

The following pages will tell you more about each topic, I just want to tempt you to look further.  If you are looking at this with a view to joining, do come as a guest, even before you join the waiting list.  You will always be very welcome, but please notify the Membership Secretary in advance - members.ashighweald@icloud.com - to make sure you can be accommodated.
